Depth Psychology + EVOX for cancer and chronic illness.

My work supports both sides of the psychological terrain of illness: the unresolved stress, trauma, and emotional pain that may be contributing to illness, and the fear, grief, and disruption illness creates now, so you can make decisions from a place of calm, clarity, and composure.

Who I work with

Where are you right now?

Active cancer diagnosis

You’ve been diagnosed, and life changed overnight.

Appointments, scans, treatment decisions, and family conversations can bring enormous fear, grief, and overwhelm. We gently metabolize the emotional turbulence the disease creates, and the turbulence that may be contributing to it.

Complex chronic illness

You’ve been living with chronic illness, maybe for years.

The practitioners, the labs, the protocols. Hope, then another flare. The illness itself may have become traumatic. We make room for that, and ask whether a piece of the psyche hasn’t yet been addressed with the same depth and nuance as the body.

Cancer-free + remission

You’re cancer-free, but you don’t feel free.

The scans are clear and everyone expects you to move on, but you may feel grief, anxiety, or fear of recurrence. Together, we help you digest the experience of cancer itself, so you can fully re-engage with your life as your newly emerged self.

The modalities

Beyond intellectual understanding.

Many people I work with have already done therapy. They can name their patterns, and the patterns continue. Depth work reaches the parts of the psyche that insight alone doesn’t. EVOX gives the mind and body signals of safety, making the psyche more malleable so what we uncover can actually shift.

Depth Psychology

Conventional therapy often works with what you can consciously explain. Depth psychology listens beneath that, to the dreams, images, body sensations, and repeating patterns through which the unconscious speaks, and to the parts of you still organized around experiences you thought you’d moved past.

EVOX Voice Mapping + Biofeedback

A biofeedback tool I use alongside the deeper work. Through voice mapping, EVOX measures tones in your voice that correlate with emotion and responds with balancing frequencies. In my clinical experience, it helps clients stay calm and regulated with difficult material, like waves settling over a tide pool so we can finally see what is there.

The approach

Illness can create emotional and psychic turbulence. Unmetabolized turbulence from the past can contribute to illness.

Both deserve attention, and neither side is neglected. The work moves in two directions, often back and forth, depending on what needs attention now.

What’s happening now (present-day turbulence)

Fear, anxiety about scans, grief, anger, treatment overwhelm, medical trauma, family conflict, decision fatigue. What happens psychologically also happens in the body. Easing that distress can support clearer decisions and lighten some of the physiological burden of chronic stress, so you can meet what’s happening with more calm, clarity, and choice.

What remains unmetabolized from the past (past turbulence)

Trauma, repressed emotions, grief, attachment wounds, family and generational patterns, perfectionism, chronic self-abandonment. Something can be intellectually understood and still remain psychologically undigested. Left unmetabolized, it can keep generating stress and keep the nervous system responding to experiences that are no longer happening.

This work complements your medical care. It never replaces it.

A metaphor for the work

Map. Metabolize. Expand.

psyche · the whole of your inner life: conscious and unconscious, emotional, psychological, relational, imaginative, and symbolic terrain.

Map

Together, we map what is actually here. Most people have already mapped the facts of their lives. I’m interested in the imprints those experiences left on the psyche, the ones you’re aware of and the ones you’re not: the complexes, the shadow, the archetypes at play, the unconscious beliefs.

Metabolize

Then I ask what your psyche needs to digest what we’ve found. Sometimes you already know the anger or grief is there and can’t understand why it won’t let go. Depending on the day, the answer may be dream tending, active imagination, emotional expression, somatic work, or a practical new skill.

Expand

Then we support who and what wants to emerge. The self you’ve always sensed you could be. The relationships you’ve longed for. The work or creative life you’ve dreamed of. Expansion of the psyche is the enlargement of the inner and outer life you are able to live.

“

This is probably one of the most influential life-altering things I’ve ever done. Evox with Leigh Ann has truly changed my life and given me so much confidence in myself and actually teaching myself how to walk through different difficult seasons or even just how to navigate my own thought processes about how and why I truly feel a certain way. If you’re debating therapy or EVOX I would recommend just AT LEAST a quick chat with Leigh Ann to see if it would make sense for you. (Spoiler alert, it will!).

About me

Hi, I’m Leigh Ann.

In many ways, this work began with my own cancer diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in 2020, and as part of my own integrative approach to healing, I began doing some of the deepest emotional work of my life. I came to see how profoundly trauma, chronic stress, and experiences I had carried for years were woven into my own psychological and physiological landscape.

Working with that material did far more than help me “cope” with cancer. It changed my relationship with my body, my history, my inner world, and ultimately the direction of my life.

Today, I bring together years of work with EVOX, ongoing doctoral study in Depth Psychology, and training across somatic, nervous-system, and experiential approaches to create work that is psychologically deep, highly individualized, and grounded in the whole person.
